The police on Tuesday arrested Majeed Parampayi, fifth accused in the terror case relating to the burning of a Tamil Nadu state bus off Kochi in 2005, in two other cases related to the missing of a child and the murder of Vinod of Thayyil, Kannur, a Hindu who had married a Muslim woman. Majeed was out on bail in the bus-burning case.

Majeed had reportedly been in custody of the police of Dharmadam station in Thalassery, Kannur, for the past two days and they had recorded his arrest on Tuesday evening. Reports said that there were also some other cases against him in the Dharmadam police station.

It was Majeed who had first told the police about the involvement of Sufiya, wife of Islamist leader and PDP chairman Abdul Nasser Madani, in the burning of the bus at Kalamassery off Kochi on September 9, 2005. He had told the police that Sufiya had planned and funded the operation. Majeed was a native of Kannur and former Kannur district secretary of Madani’s PDP.

Majeed had reportedly told the police that Sufiya had planned and got executed the bus-burning to take revenge on the Tamil Nadu authorities for torturing Madani in custody. Sufiya had learned about the torture of Madani from Majeed when he had met her after visiting the PDP chief. According to the statement with the police, Sufiya had wanted to “give a dose” to the Tamil Nadu authorities for torturing her husband.
