The hartal called by the religious extremists to protest against the demolition of a disputed structure on its 13 th anniversary has witnessed wide spread violence in some parts of northern Kerala.

In Kasargode a lorry driver was killed when he lost control of the vehicle after being hit by stones pelted at him by the hartal supporters.

Several KSRTC buses were also damaged in stone throwing. However, in Southern Kerala there was virtually no hartal as the people ignored the call made by a group of Muslim fundamentalists.

Meanwhile the police on a tip off have discovered today 20 pipe bombs, 30 crude bombs and some lethal weapons from the house of one Mariymma near Kannur.

Kerala has become a safe haven for Muslim extemists as despite several intelligence reports including that of the defence forces the state government alleged to have turned a deaf ear. This impervious attitude of the government had resulted in the killing of several people last year. Those lost their lives in extremist attacks were Manikandan and Santhosh in Guruvayur, Udayan in Vadanapally, Ashwinikumar in Iritty and Thami in Valancherry .
