In an extremely bizarre incident, a nun has been arrested after allegedly trying to set her classmate on fire. The incident took place on Saturday, in St Anne’s Convent, Paroor. The victim Delphi has been admitted to the hospital with 40% burns.

According to sources, the victim Delphi was found in her room, with burns all over her body. It was during the interrogation, under CI of Paroor, Vijayan that the accused Rachel allegedly confessed to the crime.  

“There were a total of 7 inmates in the room where Delphi stayed. The victim Delphi, accused Rachel and another student in the nunnery Jismi were very close friends. It was decided to send Jismi and Delphi to Andhra Pradesh as part of higher studies. Rachel felt that this was done with Delphi casting her influence on the higher authorities. An infuriated Rachel, in a mood of vengeance committed the crime,” said sources in the police department.

Reports state that the accused smuggled in kerosene from the convent kitchen and poured it on the sleeping Delphi, with the clear intent of killing her.
Rachel, who has been taken into custody, was produced before the magistrate. She has been remanded for 14 days and has been shifted to Kakkanad jail.
