NSS leader P K Narayana Panicker passed away

CHANGANASSERY: P K Narayana Panicker, president and former general secretary of the Nair Service Society (NSS) died here Wednesday. He was 82. He was undergoing treatment for cancer and died at his residence at 2.10 pm. His body will be kept at the NSS headquarters tomorrow morning for the people to pay homage. His body will be kept at 4 pm in the evening at the premises of his house.

He is the second-longest-serving general secretary of the organisation (after founder Mannath Padmanabhan), who has served 28 years in the post. He is an advocate by profession, who came to the front raw of the organization in 1977 as its treasurer, became general secretary in 1983.

Panicker had spearheaded several legal battles and public campaigns for income-based reservations in jobs and admissions in in place of community-based quota system.
