Thodupuzha: The enemies’ intolerance towards Hindus has reached a blinded level, where even a banyan tree is not spared, for the reason that it is sacred for us!

Devotees of Thodupuzha Sri Krishna Swami Temple, is still in shock to see how the wicked minds of communal elements act. Sacred Banyan tree near the temple was found in pieces in a fine day morning! The very old tree considered as the part of temple property was found cut down on last week. Temple trustees and members of Kshetra Samrakshana Samthi approached Thodupuzha Deputy. Superintend of police for investigation. Unfortunately no further actions were taken from police since two weeks after the incident.

Local people do not look at this as an isolated incident. Trees were planted in town last week as a part of ‘green city’ programme by the council. From that only Banyan trees, which are considered as scared by Hindus, were selectively destroyed by some anti-social groups. A religious extremist group alleged to have ties with Pakistan intelligence agency distributed posters in town on related topic.

Earlier the attempt of Jihadists to build a Mosque next to Temple property was thwarted by devotees A person residing at Ernakulam first bought this land with an agreement to build a shopping complex near the temple. Later the temple devotees realised that a Mosque is being constructed there. Council authorities intervened at right time to avoid a religious tension on the issue. The partly constructed Mosque was demolished and other Muslim religious rituals were stopped as the place is well with in temple site.

Many Hindu organisations like S.ND.P, N.S.S and Kerala Kshetra Karmic Sangh came forward with protest. Leaders see this as a threat to religious harmony in Thodupuzha and a breach on Hindus freedom of worship.

S.N.D.P union president Mr M.N Babu, Kerala Kshetra Karmic Sangh convenor V.B Prasanth and B.J.P state secretary B Radhakrishna Menon were present in the meeting organised at N.S.S ‘Karayogam’ (Branch office). B.J.P leaders saw this issue as a challenge to Hindus as similar incidents are being reported at many parts of Kerala.
