Now, Hinduisation of Islam

via GSK Menon published on June 13, 2011

We are all very familiar with Christians imitating Hindu religious traditions, customs and rituals. Even their churches are getting a facelift by addition of Hindu Dhwajastambhams and stone lamps.

Muslims represent a different proposition altogether. Islam is a self contained religion, having its own language, culture, dress code, eating habits etc. In fact, Islam erases other cultures and superimposes its culture on others. Christianity has nothing to call as its own, it is either stealing or imitating from others constantly.

I had recently gone to Ernakulam, and was surprised to see several Islamic posters pasted all over the city. As usual it was green in colour, had the photograph of a mosque, but the lines written in Malayalam came as a shocker. It read “Pankukollugin punyam nedugin”, meaning join and earn Punya !

Is there any such concept like Punya in Islam ? Recently, I had written about how christian devotional songs freely use words like Punyam, Moksham, etc. If you believe in Punya, then automatically you have to believe in Karma and Rebirth, as all these concepts are interlinked. Islamic theologians like Zakir Nayak is constantly seen on Peace TV, claiming that Islam does not believe in rebirth at all. How this contradiction has come in Islamic faith ?

I believe that Hindu philosophy has just started to make inroads into Islamic thinking. It has progressed to such an extent that some Islamic scholars are splashing posters about acquiring Punya. The Islamic world is accepting the concept of Punya, soon I hope it will accept Karma and Moksha.
