North Kerala under DRI scanner
The Department of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) is planning to conduct a detailed study among the rich and affluent secretly, sources said.
The agency which is in to nabbing blackmoney holders and counterfeit racketeers has got enough evidence that there is a sudden influx of money into the State and that several people are holding hundred times more money than their known sources of income.
It is learnt that this operation of the DRI is in association with the Central intelligence agencies and that the prime target is on the new mansions which are coming up along the State .
Another important area of operation are the land deals which have been conducted in recent times. While sources in the DRI admit that there is a considerable decline in the land deals the construction industry is still booming and the Intelligence Bureau has tipped the DRI that there is something wrong in the sudden effluence in the markets.
The DRI has also found that the growth is not in arithmetic or normal progression but it is a compounded or geographic progression which is not good for society.
The recent arrest of Maoist leader Raja Rama Reddy from Aluva and the reports from the Intelligence Bureau that there is a silent growth of the Maoist organisation in the State has led to a brain storming session within the DRI and the organisation has found that the State is witnessing a major social inequality in several areas.
The Union Finance Ministry is also keenly watching the growth of the Kerala market and what is surprising is that without any industry to boast of, land prices are soaring in the State and this according to DRI sources is the result of a created boom and the agency is mainly focusing on the persons behind the major deals in the State and their interests and their backgrounds and their sources of money.
After the controversial statement of the Government of India that there could be money being pumped into the BSE to foment terror there are also reports to the DRI that the unexpected boom in the construction industry in the State has certain links and funding from some sources which are not in the good books of the economic wing of the country’s premier investigating agencies.
The DRI is also in the trail of certain individuals from North Kerala, who the agency suspects has a counterfeit currency racket connection and several sleuths from the agency are in the process of cracking this case which has its headquarters in Dubai and Singapore.
The DRI is also trying to fathom the buying power of each individual on whom the agency has targeted and has found to the surprise that several of these individuals have spooky or pseudo partners who are pumping in the funds from various West Asian countries and even Europe.
The survey which the agency is planning to commission by the end of this month would feature all the coastal towns of the State and the agency it seems will be providing the resources and investigating reports to the Intelligence agencies directly on which there could be further action.
