Njanappana Puraskaram for Leelavathi

GURUVAYUR: The Guruvayur Devaswom will confer ‘Njanappana Puraskaram’ on writer M. Leelavathi in recognition of her comprehensive contributions to Malayalam literature.

The award instituted in memory of poet Poonthanam carries a citation, Rs 10,001 in cash, and a p o n n a d a .

The award will be presented on Poonthanadinam at a function scheduled at the Illam of Poonthanam at Perinthalmanna on March 11, said devaswom administrator V. Ratheesan.

The committee has adjudged Leelavathi also for her latest work on the women characters portrayed in the Vedas, Upanishads, Epics and the History of India. The book will be published and released by the Guruvayur Devaswom soon, administrator added.

Leelavathi was serving as an editorial member of the Bhakthapriya magazine of the Guruvayur Devaswom for decades and her literary contributions to the Bhakthapriya were also considered while selecting her for the award.
