Neyyattinkara Vasudevan passes away

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Leading Carnatic vocalist Neyyattinkara Vasudevan (68) passed away. He died of ill health at his house at Vazhuthacaud. He was born in 1940 to Narayanan and Janaki. He was the third son of the couple. He was honoured with the Kerala Sangeetha Academy Award in 1982 and Music Fellowship in 1989. Besides, he won numerous awards including that of the Kendra Sangeetha Nadaka Academy award.

He studied music at the Swathi Thirunal Music College, Thiruvananthapuram. He became A-Grade staff of Akasavani. Akasavani had conferred its highest rank on him for his outstanding contribution to Carnatic Music His music is a combination of tradition and innovation. He has contributed in a big way to popularize Swathi compositions both as a teacher and a performer.

His wife is late Ammukkutty. Babu Raj and Jaya Raj, are his two sons. He has also sung in films such as Swathi Thirunal, Chithram and Vachanam.
