The police have already arrested two persons earlier in connection with the murder of Sandeep. Kasargod district has turned communal and communal angle was quite evident in the killings.

The Yuvamorcha State president K Surendran in a Press conference charged the Government with soft pedaling on the atrocities committed by NDF, the Islamic fundamentalist outfit, and the role played by the organisation in the killings in the district.

Surendran said that a prominent leader of the DYFI has clear contacts with the NDF leadership and that this was a double ploy on the part of the NDF. He also said that several NDF workers have entered into the Muslim League, INL and the CPI(M) and called upon these political party leaderships to outcast these NDF men from their parties.

The Intelligence Bureau has already reported that in the recent killings in Kasargod district the role played by certain elements in the Mumbai underworld is significant and is probing whether it was an individual based support or whether the Islamic fundamentalist outfit NDF is trying to establish a direct link with the Mumbai underworld.

The central agencies has also reported that the NDF is trying to create communal problems in the coastal areas of the State and that Kasargod is a testing laboratory on the same.

There are already reports that certain elements of the dreaded ‘D’ company has roots in Kasargod and the police and the central agencies are probing into the activities of these individuals and groups in the recent killings.

Sources told The Pioneer that the probe is directed into the network made by these underworld groups in Kasargod and their specific interests in the area. The agencies have also reported on the real estate boom experienced in Kasargod and the presence of the underworld money into the same.

State police sources are however tight lipped and does not want to respond on the reports of the central agencies. Police officers in the district has got a dressing down from the State Home Minister and the DGP when they had arrived in the district for the peace meeting. There were reports that the State police had failed to act even after the State Special Branch(SSB) had reported that there could be communal clashes in the district and that certain Muslim organisations were making background preparations for the same. The State Special Branch has complained to the State police headquarters that the local police did not take the report seriously and had not done any adequate preparations.
