Muslim League delegation to meet Madani in B’lore jail

published on December 31, 2012

Muslim league leaders including its general secretaries ET Muhammed Basheer and KPA Majeed will visit jailed PDP leader Abdul Nasser Madani in Bangalore on Wednesday, reports said. Both League leaders would also meet Karanataka Chief Minister and discuss issues related to Madani, League sources said.

Madani, arrested in Kerala on August 17, 2010, has been lodged in the Parappana Agrahara jail in Bangalore since then. He is among 31 persons chargesheeted in the case relating to the July 2008 blasts that killed one person and left 20 others injured in Bangalore.

Muslim League has been demanding Madani ‘s release from jail on health grounds. League has been also pressurizing State Chief Minister Oommen Chandy to take up the matter with Karnataka. Oommen Chandy, the other day, had assured PDP leaders that he will do ‘everything possible to help ‘Madani.

PDP has demanded for an immediate release of Madani. “If that is not possible right now, he should be shifted to a jail in Kerala,” PDP leader Poonthura Siraaj told the Chief Minister. Though state government is yet to take decision on this, it has formed an expert committee of doctors to look into the health report provided by Karnataka government on PDP leader.

The Karnataka high court had last month rejected his bail plea but permitted him to avail treatment in hospital of his choice under police escort.
