Murder Attempt on a lonely Widow – CPM men convicted after a decade

Kozhikode: After a decade of fight for justice, finally Vineetha Kottayi, a widow who was ostracised by pro-CPI (M) KSKTU in her village near Pathiripatta in Kuttiyadi can take a big sign of relief.

CPM branch secretary EC Balan, his wife Narayani and Mohanan were convicted by Kozhikode first class fast track court in connection with attempt to murder Vineetha Kottayi. The quantum of sentence would be pronounced after a week.

According to Vineetha Kottayi, the accused tried to douse kerosene on her body and tried to set her ablaze on January 31, 2004, after she gave an interview to a channel regarding the plight of her family who were socially ostracised by whole village acting upon the orders of CPM men.
