Mullaperiyar Issue Raked Up only to Sabotage Sabarimala Pilgrimage, Alleges Hindu Aikya Vedi

Kottayam: Hindu Aikya Vedi state secretary MV Unnikrishnan has given a clarion call to members of the Hindu society to protests against the alleged sabotaging of Sabarimala pilgrimage by raking up the issue of Mullaperiyar Dam, quite systematically during Mandalam season.

“The call for granting National Pilgrimage Destination to Sabarimala has now gathered momentum. But there is a section that is jittery regarding the entire episode. They are the same ones who come to the arena with the Mullaperiyar issue. There definitely are vested interests behind those who come up with these claims, in spite of the Supreme Court appointed committee having presented its report of the dam being safe, with no signs of weakening. These groups still continue with their meaningless declarations and remonstrations, with the sole purpose of disrupting the harmonious fabric of society,” said Unnikrishnan.

Pointing out that a conspiracy behind the raking up of Mullaperiyar issue during the mandala season alone, Unnikrishnan said, “There are vested interests of real estate mafias and certain communities. The growing significance and eminence of Sabarimala has prompted members of certain allies in the government, to turn against the pilgrim centre.”

Unnikrishnan also pointed out the deed by state government, where the roads leading to Mannanam was repaired, for which Rs 6 crores was sanctioned- all this well ahead before the canonizing of Father Chavara, Mannanam being his home town. “The same government says there are no funds to repair roads leading to Sabarimala. There are also reports of certain ministers leading the Mullaperiyar fray and dissuading pilgrims from other states into going to Sabarimala. The government also forgets that the money from Sabarimala goes directly to government exchequer, when donations from worship centres of other religions go towards the upkeep and benefit of their community,” said Unnikrishnan.
