THRISSUR: An investigation team led by Jail DGP K Radhakrishnan recovered a mobile phone, two mobile chargers and three headsets from the ‘D Block’ of Viyyur central prison, where the TP murder convicts are lodged, during a raid, in Thrissur on Friday.
The raid was conducted following the seizure of a SIM card from the mat of a TP murder convict Annan Sijith by the jail authorities, on Wednesday.
The police also found that 67 surveillance security cameras installed at the jail are defunct.
The mobile phone was recovered from the space between the roof and ceiling of the jail building. After preliminary investigation, the police suspect that the cameras were deliberately vandalised. “However, a detailed investigation is needed to know what exactly happened to these cameras,†Viyyur sub-inspector K K Mohandas.
T Baburan, superintendent in charge of the Viyyur central prison, told ‘Express’ that the security cameras stopped functioning after a technical snag developed in the entire system.
When the technical fault came to light the jail authorities wrote to KELTRON officials who installed the cameras here a year ago.
Meanwhile, the police collected the call list of the SIM card that was seized from the cell of a TP murder convict. However, the police didn’t reveal the details as the investigation is under way.
