Minority status to aided educational instituitions mootted

The state government in order to satisfy further the minorities, probably eying on the next Assembly elections, is reported to have started preparations to grant minority status to all aided educational institutions started by individuals or organizations of the minority community.


The move which may have wide ranging repercussions is expected to come before the Cabinet for its consideration, a report in Kerala Kaumudi has said. If implemented, thousands of seats under general merit and based on reservations would become the monopoly of the individuals and the respective religious groups, it warned.


Though the move is part of the appeasment schemes for the minorities, the net result would be legalizing the commercialization of education by the rich people of these communities, it added.
