Metamorphosis of SIMI to NDF to Popularfront to SDPI

via HK published on May 10, 2015

Kochi: The Court findings in the notorious hand-chopping case of Prof Joseph reveal that all accused hail from Popular Front- SDPI political background. Long ago, a terror organization that mushroomed in Kerala later metamorphosed into Popular Front and SDPI.  Reports of Intelligence agencies had confirmed that the proscribed and dreaded SIMI had made a renaissance in Kerala with the NDF. And so Popular Front gained a strong foothold in Kerala, with ample political pampering from CPM- Congress- Muslim League, all of them having the lineage of encouraging and aiding the growth of Islamic terrorism.

It is with the gruesome Marad massacre of 2003 that this terror outfit began getting noted by general public. Following this, they have indulged in and successfully executed several acts of terrorism, one among them being the hand-chopping case of Professor Joseph. It is an instance, where a mountain was skillfully woven out of a molehill, simply to set stage for a horrendous act of terror.

Prof Joseph had included an extract from a book authored by former MLA and director PT Kunju Mohammed. It continues to be a matter of mystery as to why no trace of blasphemy was ever detected in the specific literature penned by PT and why it suddenly spurted out when Prof Joseph chose to make an extract out of the same. Later the professor made it publicly clear that he had absolutely no intentions of denigrating any religion and that the question was maliciously interpreted. However, a case was registered against him and he was forced to be on an exile from service thereafter- all this, inspite of repeatedly stating that he was always willing to apologize if sentiments were hurt. This should have sealed the matter, but it did not.

The hand-chopping case was an episode that petrified the Kerala society, just the way the gruesome Marad massacre had gripped the state with fear and terror. The NDF-PF alliance had sowed seeds of religious intolerance and terrorism in a state which was otherwise known for its peaceful ambiance. Taking into account both these cases of terror, citizens of Kerala had infinitely hoped that there would be paramount justice regarding the same, with all culprits being brought to book. But that never happened. The masterminds in both cases remain elusive, quite untouched by the hands of law. And state government machinery shows ample disinterest in conducting nay further probe regarding the matter.
