Mass protest against propossed Aranmula Airport ; Outcome of Kummanam’s restless coordination.

A mass protest was organized by the United Forum for Environment, Kerala (Kerala Paristhithi Aikyavedi) to protest against the government’s decision of granting sanction to the Aaranmula Airport. The gathering brought together all who have raised their voice against the same.  The Bharatiya Janata Party, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Sangh Parivar Organizations, Communist Party of India, RSP have always been against the airport and held independent protests against the same. But the mass gathering on Sunday opened a new chapter by uniting all protesting forces.

Among those who must be credited with this union of forces is literary Kummanom Rajashekharan, who has been organizing camps for unifying the protest meets. He has always been a reckoning force in giving a solid direction to the remonstrations organized by Sangh Parivar and also in bringing together people of the various organizations. Another name that has to be mentioned is that of luminary Sugatha Kumari , herself appearing on the arena, the Communist Party forces joined hands in the movement.

The gathering on Sunday was a demonstration of unity and solidarity. The conflicts that have hitherto created squabbles amidst various groups, even though their march was towards the same goal, now stands exemplar as a sign of unity. With the district leadership of Communist party calling for a public platform to discuss the issue of Aaranmula Airport, the meeting of the united forces gained strength. Former Minister Mullakara Ratnakaran reiterated the matter. “This meeting is eventful and memorable. This is the first time that people of diverse perspectives stand connected,” he pointed out.

Former Minister NK Premachandran, KK Royson, member of KPCC and former District Panchayat President, KK Roy, former MLA Maleth Sarala Devi were part of the protest meet.
