Perinthalmanna: CPM goons set ablaze the shop of an elderly person for the sheer reason that he proceeded to voice support for Bharatiya Janata Party. The elderly gentleman Velayudhan is said to have voiced support for BJP and permitted placing of an election candidate’s flex board in front of his shop.

The attack is said to have taken place following by-elections in the third ward of Elamkulam panchayat in Malappuram district, the birth place of E M Sankaran Nampoothiripadu. This is the second time Velayudhan’s shop has been gutted by the unruly red brigade. The results are said to have infuriated the Marxist party goons. “The shop was set ablaze by miscreants. The party bigwigs were quick to denounce any hand in the events. But In a very short time, these vandals appeared and gutted whatever remained of the shop. It was a lorry driver who spotted the conflagration. He alerted the public who swung into action,” said sources.

The attack was aimed at lowering and dampening the morale of Velayudhan and family members, who is said to have switched loyalties to the nationalist party. The state leadership of BJP has alleged that such feeds are part of the Red Brigand’s hidden agenda in intimidating members who have left the party and coercing them to return to their folds.
