Marxists Clutch Ramayana in a Desperate Bid to save themselves

Kozhikode: In what appears to be clutching at the last straws, the Marxists have taken to the epic Ramayana, conducting a Ramayana seminar in Kozhikode on 27 July. And what appears even more ridiculous is the panel formed to conduct the religious discourses, who happen to be none other than some of the Marxist bigwigs of the state.

What brings to light is the apparent insecurity being suffered in the ‘red-brigade’ camps, by lamenting aloud that “nationalist Hindus have taken to religious discourses as part of a hidden political agenda”. With this new found discovery and their new found love for Hinduism, Marxists have entrusted their stalwart Civic Chandran to host a ‘Ramayana Fest’ (akin to the Beef Fest?) in Kozhikode, from 12- 16 August. The fest is slated to showcase native cultural art forms like ‘tholpaavakkoothu’ and ‘kathakali’ as part of the red brigade drama.

It was under the aegis of Vishal Hindu Sammelan, held in Ernakulam in 1982, under the aegis of AR Sreenivasan that it was decided to observe ‘Ramayana Masam’ in the state. The Marxists have conveniently forgotten the commotion and ruckus created by them when the decision was taken by nationalists. The so-called progressive Marxists of the state including EMS and Thirunalloor Karunakaran were quick to react and register their protest against the move! Also the ‘red brigade’ seems to have selective amnesia when it came to their unruly behavior and hooliganism calling for the burning of copies of Ramayanam.

Now, as the ship remains almost sunk, the Communists seem desperate in invoking the supreme powers in a last bid of survival. Prior to this was the DYFI stage show of protesting against education minister Abdu Rabb by lighting the sacred lamp. Onlookers, no doubt find their antics amusing
