Marxist Gundaraj – The End Begins

via HK published on December 18, 2008

SHORNUR:
The CPI(M) activists opposing the Gundaraj of dictator Pinarai Vijayan won the
Shornur municipality election. This is the first time in history, the CPM
Pinarai group lost power in Shornur municipality. In the byelections held in nine
wards, the Democratic Development Samithi (DDS) led by former Municipality
vice-chairman M R Murali captured eight wards from CPM , while  CPM could only retain one in their stronghold .

M R Murali was expelled from the
CPM when he questioned the autocracy and undemocratic practices in CPM under
Pinarai Vijayan. Murali, along with eight councillors, resigned and formed the
DDS. Now  in the 30-member municipality
the CPM has 14 seats, Congress-7, DDS-8 and BJP –1.

The victory of DDS shocked the official
faction of  CPI(M) leadership but Achuthanandan
group welcomed their victory. As usual CPM thugs attacked the victory rally of
DDS and called a Hartal yesterday over party’s failure!. M.R. Murali challenged
the sitting Shornur MLA to resign and face the election.
