Maoist Presence in Kottiyur Forest Area

Kannur: The Adivasis of Kottiyur forest area have recently been reporting of growing Maoist presence in the area. According to reports given to police, the team comprises of four well armed persons, including two women and two men.

Sources state that Adivasi women folk who ventured into the forest area in search of fire wood came upon the group that was in suspicious uniform. However, it was not possible for them to identify the people. Reports state that the group tried to get friendly, but the Adivasi women folk fled the place in fear.

The recent report submitted by the secret wing of Intelligentsia states that “a Maoist attack is likely to take place on resorts and quarries.”

The Maoists had, in a recent attack, on 18 November Maoists had ravaged a resort in Thirunelli. Following this, a report was submitted by the secret wing that there could be further Maoist attacks on resorts and quarries in the state.

With Maoist presence confirmed, the combing of the area has been strengthened by Operation Thunderbolt. A warning has been issued to resort and quarry owners, directing them to step up vigil.
