THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Offering rice at Rs 2 a kilo is one thing, ensuring social justice is quite another, according to Yoga guru Swami Ramdev. Ramdev, known for his televised mass yoga sessions, was in the capital delivering the monthly lecture at the Bharatiya Vichara Kendram.

Ramdev accused a “caucus” of corrupt politicians, bureaucrats and corporates of hijacking public wealth. Ramdev had recently created news by announcing his plans to test the political waters by fielding 543 candidates in the next general elections.

This minority of 2-3 percent had cornered all the resources that belonged to the vast majority.

Although he did not go into the specifics or names, Ramdev said that merely offering rice at Rs 2 a kilo was not the solution to usher in social justice. (While the LDF Government has rolled out its rice-at-Rs-2-a-kilo scheme, the UDF in its election manifesto goes one step further – rice at Rs 1 per kilo).

Ramdev, who has launched the Bharat Swabhiman movement to fight corruption and crime, said there was need to change the system to end the evils of corruption and black money. Ramdev had earlier exhorted the government to bring back the money belonging to the Indian people stashed away in Swiss banks.

“I have started a campaign targeting 100 crore signatures. I’ve collected over 10 crore signature and aim to complete it by the year-end,” he said.

Leninism, Marxism and socialism were systems that had a short life. There is only one enduring way to ensuring public well-being-a system founded on spirituality and Indian philosophy, he said.
