Kottayam: The Hindu Aikya Vedi has sought a high level probe into allegations of huge graft in issues related to promotions and transfer of officers at gramapanchayat level. Lashing out at Muslim League and seeking a probe, HAV state general secretary ES Biju said that party members of the minister who handles the department and their middlemen are the ones who are rampantly involved in the matter.

Pointing out that middlemen give a list to the concerned ministry based on the bribe procured, Biju said, “There are widespread allegations of mammoth bribes ranging from 50,000 rupees to 2, 00,000 rupees in order to prevent transfers and further promotions. Greater the money, more are the chances you get to remain at your preferred destination and position. The situation has reached a stage where even those who are eligible rightfully and legally have to resort to bribe.”

Alleging that the “cases of bribery being indulged in by Muslim League were conveniently ignored by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and other members of the cabinet out of sheer fear”
