Mammootty rubs shoulders with BJP leaders
KOCHI: Adding a touch of glamour by his presence at senior BJP leader L K Advani’s autobiography launch here yesterday, Left-leaning Malayalam film star Mammootty said a “statesman’s biography” will reflect the country’s history and political scenario.
The actor, who cancelled his shoot schedule to participate in the function, said “My Life My Country” had ‘ignited’ many controversies.
Referring to India-Pakistan relations, which finds mention in the book, the national award-winning actor said India was spending 60 per cent of its budget for military purposes. “If relations between the two countries had been good, it could have been utilised for the people.
“India is not free economically. We are independent only politically,” he said.
Though close to the Left ideology, Mammootty said “political equations may change in future” and wished the best to Advani, who is the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate.
Former Kerala revenue minister K M Mani said the autobiography was a ‘very valuable’ research document for future generations.
