Malappuram Tales – From Gunman to Passport officer; Fatwa against Achuthanandan

published on June 29, 2013

Malappuram: Muslims will be pushed to top key posts in Kerala whenever Muslim league is in power, no matter whether they are eligible for the post or not.

One Abdul Rasheed, once the gunman of Minister Kunhalikutty (Icecream Sex scandal fame) was appointed as the Passport officer in Mallapuram passport office. Now he is facing CBI enquiry into various anti national activities.

Abdul Rashid was close to Kunhalikutty  and  some other IUML leaders, including K.P. A. Majeed. His wife is president of Idayoor panchayat representing the IUML.
These links  helped him get this post in Ministry of External Affairs where IUML leader E. Ahmed served as minister of state.

Following complaints CBI conducted raid in his house and seized 2 lakh rupees. The CBI will conduct a detailed probe into the recruitment of K Abdul Rahseed as passport officer in Malappuram. The CBI has also frozen his bank accounts.

“Malappuram and Kozhikode passport offices had flouted norms by correcting contents of passports. Union minister E Ahamed should clarify why these two officers were given permission on record to make corrections in passports. No other passport office in the country is allowed to do that”, Opposition leader Achuthanandan said. “The rules suggest that passports once cancelled should not be given back. But, the order given to Malappuram and Kozhikode passport officers say that they can renew such passports”, he claimed.  it was for the first time that a police official was  being appointed to the post of passport officer. This was to expedite human trafficking for the purpose of prostitution and other such criminal activities after making manipulations in  the passport, told Achuthanandan to media.

A police team led by a DySP had registered 137 cases of manipulation of passports in a  short period in Malappuram. Following this, the Industries Minister along with Union Minister of State for External Affairs E. Ahmed convened a meeting on December 12, 2012.

However, the ministers did not sign the minutes of the meeting. The ministers came down heavily on the officers who registered such cases. Soon, the Ministry of External Affairs issued a directive to  Malappuram and Kozhikode passport offices to issue fresh passports in cases of  cancellation due to tampering of the date of birth. This directive was not valid for any other passport offices, Achuthanandan said.

Most of these cases were that of women in the age group of 16 to 20 years, who had tampered with their passports to change their ages to above 30  to make them eligible for house maid visa, Achuthanandan said. The tampered passports were also used for smuggling counterfeit currency and for terrorist activities, he said.

Following Achuthanandan’s allegation, Muslim league issued Fatwa against Achuthanandana and warned him against stepping into Mallapuram district . Against the warnings and agitations by Hindu organizations it was Communist party led by EMS Nampoothiripad who created this district for Muslims and now they are paying the price for the same.
