Mafia Raj in Kerala

via HK published on August 17, 2006

Additional DGP Jacob Punnuse the other day disclosed about the presence of Mafia Groups in the state with assets over Rs.50,000 crores; thereby a strong police force is required to deal with them. If the government has evidence about 50,000 crores, it is to everyone’s knowledge that in reality the Mafia Groups in the state may be having assets worth over 100,000 or much more.

For the past few years there have been reports about the flow of black money to the state from foreign countries, from where they mainly come from and even the daily remittance to certain accounts in some of the new generation banks. But what action did the government take?

Just by  increasing number in the police force alone could not deal with the situation. Firstly, the police as of today are recruited on various reservations, trained in the age old fashion in an outdated curriculum, maintained as the arm of the ruling party to function according to their whim and fancies. So, how could they deliver desired results?

Secondly, the Mafia Groups are often used by political parties and even certain religious groups. They constitute the useful vote bank; thereby the government cannot adopt any policy to eradicate Mafia Groups.

The links between Islamic Fundamentalist and Hawala Mafia and Sandalwood Mafia was exposed several times by the media and Intelligence,But no actions were taken so far as it will hurt the sentiments of Minorities!
