Madhur Siddhi Vinayaka temple burgled

KASARAGOD: Gold ornaments and cash were burgled from the centuries-old Madhur Siddhi Vinayaka temple near here early today, police said.


The incident came to the notice of temple authorities when they opened the shrine for morning poojas.


The thieves also ransacked the temple before taking away unspecified quantity of pure gold ornaments adorned over the main idol of Ganesha, besides cash from hundies, police said.


Police and finger print experts visited the spot to probe into the incident and assess the losses.


The thieves were believed to have gained entry into the temple in the wee hours by removing roof tiles. They later broke open the doors of the sanctum sanctorum and decamped with the booty.


The burglary has virtually triggered panic in the area with such incidents rising in the district, they said.


The temples across the northern district, which generally have good amount of ornaments adorning the deities, had been targeted by thieves several times in the last two months.
