KOCHI: The Special Investigation Team(SIT) which questioned PDP leader Abdul Nazar Madhani and his wife Sufiya for the second day at his residence here on Thursday said Madhani and Sufiya are likely to be grilled again if the submissions made by them do not match. Top sources said SIT would corroborate their statements during the interrogation in the coming days and decide on the future course of action.

‘‘Madhani and Sufiya were interrogated separately. Now we’ll crosscheck the submissions. If we find any contradictions in the statements, we may interrogate them again,’’ sources said.

Sufiya was quizzed on her role in the Kalamassery bus-burning case and on the reports that a girl, said to be Sainudheen’s daughter, had stayed with her at her residence.

It is believed the team wants to collect more details from Madhani based on the statements of Sainudheen and Sarfaraz Nawaz, the key accused in the Bangalore bomb blast case.

Sources said the team also inquired into Madhani’s role in the encounter killing of five Malayalis by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir. Though Sainudheen had confirmed his close ties with Abdul Nazar Madhani, both the PDP leader and his wife had strongly denied it. Later, Madhani told reporters that the SIT team questioned him on the killing of five Malayali youths in J&K. ‘‘I believe nobody has so far made any submission linking me with any sort of terrorist activities. They asked me about certain persons who had been in the PDP in the beginning,’’ he said.

‘‘On Sainudheen’s submission that he had met me in 1994 at a hotel in Malappuram, I told the team I might have met him as a lot of persons call on me after each public meeting. Sainudheen may have been among the persons,’’ Madhani said.
