Lotus buds in Kerala, Hindus awaiting it’s full bloom

via HK published on October 27, 2010

Thiruvananthapuram: Amidst highly polarized Political scenario in Kerala in which traditionally voters are split among Congress lead UDF and CPI(M) lead LDF – BJP had shown an impressive performance this time in the local body elections in which the results were out today. When the results of all districts except Kozhikode district came out, BJP had gained many seats in traditional UDF and LDF strongholds and came second in many places sending hopes to Hindus in this state. Traditionally Hindu votes used to split between UDF and LDF and both these arch rivals often make pacts to make sure BJP is never bought to scene.

In Thiruvananthapuram Corporation BJP gained 6 and 2 seats each in Kochi and Thrissur corporations.BJP also bagged 19 Grampanchayath seats so far. In Alappuzha BJP bagged seats in Ambalapuzha and Kayakulam.Thrissur Muncipality BJP Bagged 2 seats from Kunamkulam area .In Kasargode BJP won 11 seats in Muncipality and 13 seats in Palakkad Munciplaity and 3 in Shornnur. In Thrissur BJP also won 2 seats from Kodungallur and one in Guruvayur. In Wayanadu Noolpuzha panchayath, BJP’s victory had given them the decisive power on who should rule the panchayath. In Kochi were BJP won 2 seats CPM candidate were pushed to fourth place.BJP bagged one seat each from Attingal and Varkala  Muncipal seats and 2 from Nedumangad. In Pathanamthitta Lotus bloomed in two Muncipal seats and 4 seats in Thiruvalla. In Kanchangad Muncipality BJP won 5 seats and 3 seats in Elur in Ernakulam district. In Muslim majority Mallapuram district also BJP had marked their place in Kottakkal and Ponnani.

Altogether the trend this time was against LDF and CPM had lost their many strongholds to UDF. Victory of UDF lead by Congress is primarily the victory of consolidated Muslim and Christian votes through Muslim league and Kerala Congress. Anti Hindu stands and blind Minority pampering measures taken by Communists had alienated Hindus as well  but once again majority of Hindus who voted for LDF last time shifted their loyalty to UDF. The current victory of BJP is definitely a way ahead for the upcoming assembly elections. Unless Hindus consolidate their votes for the common benefit of Hindu society we will be marginalised in all fronts more vigorously in coming days.
