THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Once again it has proved that in Kerala , Communal and Caste based priorities are the deciding factor . Selvaraj the Congress Candidate defeated the nearest LDF rival S Lawrence by over 6334 votes. When Selvaraj obtained 52,528 votes, LDF candidate F Lawrence got 46,194 votes. BJP candidate O Rajagopal got 30,507 votes.

Even if it’s by one vote the Candidate who gain the maximum votes will win in the electoral politics, Although majority of the voters casted vote against the winner!.
Yes, for all Nationalists, defeat of BJP is disheartening. Before we blame any one in Neyyattinkara for this defeat – we cannot  close our eyes towards the obvious fact that , A Hindu consolidation was evident in Neyyattinkara.

From merely 6000+ votes  in last election, This time Rajagopalji grabbed 30,507 votes. BJP and Rajettan were able to convince 25,000 more voters who voted for either LDF or UDF in last election. From 4% vote share in last election to 25% vote share this time, is indeed a big leap.

Brutal murder of T P Chandrasekharan, Stand taken by Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan against his own party following the murder and consolidation of Christian votes helped Congress and Selvaraj to save their face.
