published on December 15, 2014

Malappuram: A thorough revamp and reconstruction of data is required in the field of higher studies, said state president of Bharatiya Vichara Kendram Dr K Jayaprasad. He was addressing the audience on the occasion of a seminar “Higher Studies- Problems and Solutions” held in connection with the 32nd state meet of Bharatiya Vichara Kendram.

Stressing the need for inclusion of an environment in the education sector that will help create masterminds, who will give greater impetus on research studies, Dr Jayakumar said emphasis should be laid on quality and not on quantity of papers churned out. Asserting that there should be regional parity with regard to syllabus, Dr Jayakumar said that the three universities of Kerala, Mahatma Gandhi and Kozhikode should be further divided, he said that “each university should have only 150 affiliated colleges functioning under them.”

Reiterating that universities in Kerala are the crosssections of party politics, he said that “they should be free from political rule. A Universtity Staff Recruitment Board should be formed to make selections for those aspriting for various posts, to the Joint Registrars. Along with this, a University Administrative Service should also come into vogue. There ought to be new provisions regarding statutory appointments including that of Registrars. A Teachers’ Recruitment Board should also be set up to look into appointment of those in the teaching section.”

Making a plea to publish research papers, Dr Jayakumar said that research papers should serve society and be beneficial socially. The field of higher studies has not been democratized, but politicized. Formerly centres for bringing to light paradigm talents, they have been reduced to centres of extreme squabbles. For these dreams to materialize, a complete revamp is essential”
