Kudumbasree Anniversary Now a Congress Fete?
There are widespread allegations of the anniversary of Kudumbasre having churned out into a political festival of Congress party. The participation and presence of party leaders like VM Sudheeran, Mukul Wasnik etc at the event have inevitably lent a deep political hue to the matter. Adding to the mêlée was a grossly wrong statement by Sonia
Gandhi about Kudumbasree and Janasree functioning in the same manner, which led to protests.
Adding to this was the fact that leaders of the opposition were conspicuously absent from the function. Rumours are also afloat that leaders of the opposition were not even invited for the function. Also, Sonia Gandhi, who was supposed to arrive by 11.00 am made her presence felt only in the post noon session. This led to participants being extremely disgruntled following the delay, which led to lack of availability of even drinking water. Participants had reached the venue early in the morning, owing to security reasons. However, in spite of the delay and inconveniences caused, they were not allowed to venture out. This has allegedly led to the denigration of a function,
which was organized after collecting lakhs as donation.
Security officers are also said to have behaved in a belittling manner to participants and those from the media. Police personnel too are said to have adopted a similar stand.
