KOCHI: “The investigation into the SNC Lavalin case proved that if the evidence is strong, any mighty person has to surrender before the law,” said T P Nandakumar, chief editor of Crime Magazine, who broke the news about the scandal.

“Even God cannot protect Pinarayi Vijayan in the case because the evidence against him is strong. The evidence clearly tells the involvement of Pinarayi in the Rs 374.5-crore scandal,” he told to The New Indian Express.

“Using his political influence, Pinarayi had made all efforts to sabotage the inquiry into the case. The intervention of the High Court was the main reason for the smooth conduct of the probe,” he said.

“When I published the story on the scandal, the CPM activists set my office ablaze. Even my life was under threat. Lots of valuable documents, which could be supportive to the evidence, were gutted. Yet, there was enough evidence against Pinarayi,” he said.

Nandakumar said that he filed the complaint before the High Court seeking the CBI inquiry as the Vigilance case would not be valid legally.

“Since there is involvement of foreign hands in the case, only a national agency can conduct the probe. For this, I met the then Electricity Minister Aryadan Mohammed and convinced him that the Vigilance inquiry was invalid. He presented the matter before the UDF leadership, which later led to the CBI inquiry,” he said.

Nandakumar alleged that the CPM also pulled strings in Delhi to sabotage the CBI inquiry when it was supporting the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre.”When the CBI was asked to conduct an inquiry, they refused to accept it first. Later, they had to start inquiry after the High Court intervention,” he said.
