THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP state president P.K. Krishnadas has called upon the Government to frame treason charges against PDP chairman Abdul Nassar Madani in view of the statements made against him by the accused in the Bangalore blast case before the Class-I Judicial Magistrate Court, Mattannoor, under section 164 of the CrPC.

Addressing a face-to-face programme organised under the aegis of the Kesari Memorial Journalists’ Trust here on Monday, Krishnadas said that as Madani’s associates had given the statement under section 164, he should have been arrested and jailed. But the CPM was aligning with Madani with an eye on the Muslim vote bank.

Krishnadas challenged Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan for an open debate with the BJP in this regard. He alleged that the CPM-Madhani tie-up was nothing but treason.

He said that the UDF also had a role in making Madani Kerala’s Bhindranwale. Madani himself had said that UDF leaders including Oommen Chandy had queued up at the Coimbatore jail to seek his support in the elections to which the UDF leaders replied that it was on humanitarian ground that they met Madani who had been under incarceration without trial.

Why Oommen Chandy did not meet Kollam Chandran who also was arrested under the Arms Act and jailed without trial along with Madani, if it was mere humanitarian concern? Krishadas asked.

He said that the Congress had held talks with the Popular Front of India leaders in Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam to ensure their support in the elections.
