Kasargode: Mallikarjuna Temple Desecrated with Buffalo Carcass Head

published on April 3, 2012

The town of Kasargode again stands witness to brewing communal tension, with fanatic Muslim miscreants throwing the head of a buffalo carcass into the premises of Mallikarjuna Temple. The heinous crime was committed by 2 Muslim youths, who came astride a bike, hurling the carcass head into the temple premises from the back side of temple. The incident appears to be part of a well scripted drama of deliberately causing communal turmoil in the town.

The crime was committed in a jiffy, without giving any chance for the miscreants in revealing their identity. The offenders hurled the bag containing the carcass from the rear portion of the temple. The bag hit the compound walls and landed at the way leading to temple. As soon as the incident came into light, devotees and local people swarmed the area. They were joined by members of Hindu organizations, who reached the spot immediately.

State General Secretary of BJP K Surendranath, District President Suresh Kumar Shetty, Mandalam President P Rameshan, RSS Thaluk Sanghachalak K Dineshan, BMS State Secretary Advocate P Muraleedharan, District Vice-President H Keshava, BJP District Secretary Nanchil Kunhiraman were among the first to reach the spot. Senior police officials accompanied CG Prasad, Temple Managing Trustee, in conducting preliminary investigations.
K Surendranath, Suresh Kumar Shetty, leaders of RSS and Hindu Aikya Vedi reiterated that the incident must be seen as part of a hidden agenda by communal fanatics in disrupting the peace of Kasargode and creating a violent situation. The miscreants, they said, must be severely dealt with by both police and district authorities.

As news of the desecration of Mallikarjuna Temple spread, the entire town of Kasargode and neighbouring places were placed under strict surveillance, as hostility prevailed in the area. A well armed contingent of police has been deployed in the temple vicinity and adjacent areas. The situation, even though volatile, is under control.  Kasargode also witnessed a mass protest rally of Hindus, including devotees and locals, remonstrating against the incident.
This is the third successful endeavour of miscreants, in a span of few weeks, in desecrating Hindu temples. Another incident on similar lines took place at Meeppugiri Durga Devi Temple in Madhur Panchayat of Kasargode District just two months ago. The head of a buffalo carcass was conveniently positioned at the apex of the stone lamp, which was discovered by devotees early in the morning.

The incident which shocked the entire Hindu community was done by a group of 6 people. Out of the 6 offenders 1 man was arrested from Perumbavoor and 2 from Chennai. In the interrogation that followed, they confessed that placing the head of the buffalo carcass in the temple was indeed a deliberate attempt in distorting peace and communal harmony of the place. 3 among the offenders still remain missing.

However, Indian Union Muslim League, a dominant political party in Kasargode District has been vehemently denying the incidents, including the pelting of stones at Edavunkaal Vishnu Moorthy Temple. They have been engaging themselves in a widespread propaganda, referring to the incidents as nothing but hoax. But following the arrests of antisocial elements who had received ample training in fundamentalist activities, these leaders maintained their silence.
With Kasargode becoming a focal point of sacrilegious activities like temple desecration, many Hindu organizations convened a meeting to chalks out means of registering and launching a powerful protest. The meeting was held in the premises of Mallikarjuna Temple today.

Hindu organizations observed  Hartal in Kasargod today. As usual medias kept silent about the whole incident but was quick to report against the Hartal call.
