The Vivekananda Memorial in Kanyakumari, one of the favourite destination of tourists heading for South India could be on the radar of various terror networks, say the latest Intelligence reports. The reports which have come up following seizure of Pakistani boats have thrown light on detailed terror plans having Kanyakumari and Kochi as prime targets.

According to latest reports, the Pak based water infiltrators could either be part of a larger network who were either plotting a mass terror strike or who could be conducting various covert operations to gather information for later operations. Reports also state that Central Intelligence agencies had earlier alerted the state government and various sections of the Naval force on the possibility of a terror strike via ocean, following which surveillance has been doubled in the area.

Apart from Kanyakumari, Kochi, along with the numerous islands bordering the place too faces terror threats, say reports. Earlier, the arrest of dreaded terror plotter David Coleman Headley had revealed the presence of Kochi on international terror map. Intelligence agencies have sought strengthening of security forces in prime locations and sacred places like Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram.

A detailed discussion is said to have taken place between concerned authorities and National Security Advisor Ajith Doval in Kanyakumari and senior National Security officer K Vijayakumar in Kochi.

Inmates of the intercepted boat claim they are from Iran. However, neither Iranian nor Pakistan government have come forward staking any claims. A huge cache of arms and ammunition is suspected to have been in the intercepted boats, which as likely to have been abandoned in the ocean when they were sure of being nabbed
