Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Police informed a judicial magistrate court  here today that that  sub-inspector Biju Salim have links with banned Jihadi outfits. He was earlier arrested on Sunday in connection with a controversial media report that the state police had hacked emails of a cross-section of Muslims.

Police told the court that they have stumbled upon crucial evidence that subinspector Biju Salim has links with banned outfits and hence they should be given his custody to crack the case. The court allowed police to keep Salim till March 27. He had been charged with criminal breach of trust by a public servant, forgery, conspiracy, misuse of public office and violation of Official Secrets Act.

The preliminary probe found the documents which led to the e-mail row were leaked from the High-Tech Cell of Kerala Police. But finally the letter published by the media was found to be fabricated and leaked to the media by Salim. He had forged the letter and the list of the email IDs and sent it to the media. To give an appearance of credibility, the signature of an intelligence officer was also forged.

Police claim to have found out that a conspiracy on this was hatched in Kozhikode and here. Crucial documents and CDs have been recovered from Salim and police have zeroed in on a few others who allegedly helped Salim, say police.
