Kannur: The state home ministry has given orders to the Crime Branch to reinvestigate the murder of former state vice-president of Yuva Morcha, Jayakrishnan Master. The investigation team will be headed by Kozhkode Crime Branch SP Kareem, Dy SP Vijayan, CIs Benny, Azad and SI Jayan. The gruesome murder of Jayakrishnan Master by CPM goons in December 1999 had shaken Kerala society like never before.

The case was earlier investigated by DySP Shaukat Ali, with a report being submitted to the state government on 4 December 2012. It was pointed out in the investigation report that a case which was as old as that of Jayakrishnan Master’s murder and where the verdict has already been pronounced, would be difficult to re-investigate.

Following this, on 18 July 2013, the state government had put forward the case for the CBI’s consideration, towards which the latter is said to have shown disinclination. It is at this juncture that the case was transferred to the Crime Branch.

Jayakrishnan Master was hacked to death by on 1 December 1999, while he was teaching students at Mokkeri Parammel UP High School by CPM goons. The Sangh Parivar had persistently sought a CBI inquiry into the matter, which was cleverly thwarted and sabotaged by both UDF and LDF governments. However, with the BJP government assuming power at the centre, it is likely that the case be reinvestigated by CBI.

However, district VP of BJP P Satyaprakashan Master has alleged that the Crime Branch’s decision to reinvestigate the case is part of a game plan between UDF and LDF.
