Thiruvananthapuram: According to the latest reports, Kerala’s link to the fortified presence of ISIS in Maldives is emerging stronger and more dangerous. Intelligence sources have reported that youths hailing from the Maldivian community that has been residing in Kerala for a protracted period of time are making a beeline for the West Asian shores to be a part of ISIS. A warning has also been issued by the Union Ministry to the state home department.

The entire crop of fresh information was unearthed during a search for Fathullah Jameel, a taxi driver hailing from Male, the capital of Maldives. Reports revealed that Fathullah, his Indian wife Shabana and three children now reside in ISIS strongholds. The children are said to have had their education in schools in Thiruvananthapuram.

Almost a year back, Jameel’s eldest son had returned to India, to take his parents to Syria. However, his plans could not be executed. Jameel and his wife are under the scrutiny of Maldivian police personnel.

It has been estimated that over 200 Maldivians are part of the ISIS network, working as Jihadists. Out of these over 20 Jihadists are said to have been residents of Kerala. With their intrinsic knowledge of Malayalam and in-depth knowledge of the terrain, reports suggest that they are likely to create a basis and working ground for further activities or turn the place into safe havens if need arises.

However, it has also been stated that the state government is not paying heed to the numerous warning being issued by the central government an intelligence agencies. A letter has been sent by the union home ministry to the state government, seeking details of a documented plan of action regarding the same.
