Is ‘Love Jihad’ creeping into Mollywood?

There are reports of a condition looming in the background for Rima Kallingal’s wedding to take place- conversion into Islam.

The relationship between Rima Kallingal and Aashiq Abu is no secret with the former having spoken openly about the same in a recent interview. There were also reports of the two of them sharing a’ live-in’ relationship in an effort to know each other better before entering wedlock.

Soon when the duo publicized their decision to get married on various media and social networking platforms, photographs showcasing the two of them together also did their rounds on the internet. They were even labeled as the couple who defied social norms.

However in the last few days, social media is abuzz with reports about the latest “hitch” that has come to play spoilsport in the relationship, though both, Rima and Aashiq Abu are yet to respond to this controversy.

According to Rima’s fan club, the actress has been asked to convert to Islam in order to marry Aashiq. This has been set as a pre-condition for the Aashiq’s family to accept the marriage. While the new generation director is still to confirm the news, many doubt that the demand has been made with his silent approval.

Sources close to Aashiq point out that there have been many instances of conversion in the film world, and therefore Rima’s conversion is unlikely to create ripples.

Friends, relatives and fans of Rima are eagerly waiting to see how the actress will respond to such a pre-condition set for the marriage to materialize. With these reports doing rounds, many social media enthusiasts have raised the doubt whether this is Mollywood’s own version of Love Jihad.

“If religious conversion is an important factor, why doesn’t Aashiq Abu convert to Rima Kallingal’s faith?” was one of the most recurrent questions raised by her fans through social media yesterday.
