Inquiry in to Ghar Wapsi; No Inquiry into Christian Conversion Programmes?

Thrissur: The hypocritical attitude adopted by state home minister Ramesh Chennithala into the Ghar Wapsi programme, which is being conducted without any compulsion, is indeed intriguing. The question as to why the home minister is silent about issues of Christian conversion and Love Jihad, which is rampant in the state, regarding which numerous complaints have always poured in, into the state administration.

It is quite evident that the Ghar Wapsi ceremony being initiated by Viswa Hindu Parishad is without any coercion- which is why there are no objections from any Hindu organizations regarding the inquiry which has been called for. However glaring issues like conversion to Islam and Christianity via forcible conversions and Love Jihad have met with damp responses from the government and administrative machinery- all this in spite of the Chief Minister himself having been petitioned about these matters incessantly. Adivasi leaders themselves have made public, the nuisance posed by Christian missionaries in converting people of their groups into the Abrahamic religion. Also, the fact that state government machinery remains conveniently blind to the rampant run of religious conversions backed by terror organizations is appalling.

However, when it comes to an inquiry, the selective silence is indeed deceptive. This, in spite of the announcement made by the district collectors of Alappuzha and Kottayam that there has been no complaint regarding any forcible conversion and those who have returned to their Hindu fold publicly announcing that the decision of reconversion is because of the humiliating treatment meted out by Christian organizations.
