Inhuman Treatment Meted out to Children in Muslim Orphanages.

According to the latest reports, it has come to light that orphanages in the state, which are run by Muslims are centres of extreme cruelty, where children are subject to the most inhuman methods of torture. Sources have indicated that even childish pranks are rewarded with heinous punishments. Photographs of these, along with unhygienic conditions that prevails, have leaked out.

Reports have revealed that there are scars that still remain unhealed, on the body of a child studying in standard one, in an orphanage run in Muvattupuzha. The child was later rescued by officials of Child Line and rehabilitated in Snehalayam, Palluruthy. Other children have also confirmed reports of torture.

Child Welfare officials swung into action following secret reports they received about the tortures of authorities at the orphanage headed by Meeran Maulavi. Similar such reports have poured in from other centres as well. However, there has been no inquiry commissioned into the same yet.

There are also reports of girls, who have attained maturity, being housed in these orphanages, including the one at the orphanage in Muvattupuzha. Reports cite that girls and boys were illegally housed together at these orphanages.
