The Marxists have plunged Kerala society into an unfathomable spell of inquisitiveness- even though the aim was to obstruct and disrupt the Shobhayatras of Balagokulam, what exactly did the Marxists prove they were celebrating- Onam or Janmashtami? The party leadership seem to be racking their heads to come to find an amicable answer and come to a consensus over this.

PB member Pinarayi Vijayan had claimed that Balasangham pageantry was no way associated with Janmashttami. At the same time, MLA P Ramakrishnan had posted pictures of inauguration of the event on social media, along with his wishes of ‘secular Janmashttami’. But when his deed became controversial, the Ramakrishnan withdrew his statement and scuttled away. But as the matter seemed to snowball, the hapless MLA had to resurface. In a desperate bid to save himself, he blabbered that it was a “club function, not related to party”. But, in spite of all this, the party was badly cornered when the Kochi edition of Deshabhimani had, on its front page, splashed pictures of Balasangham pageantry. Contradicting this was Kodiyeri Balakrishnan’s vehement denials.

Last year another prominent Marxist hoodlum P Jayarajan had issued a public threat of halting Balagokulam Shobhayatras, saying that “Belief (in God) need be restricted to temples alone and there is no need to bring the same out into society”. His own party made a laughing stock of its own, with what was termed as ‘Shobhayatras’, along with ‘Uriyadi’. In spite of Balasangham, DYFI and Democratic Women’s Association having issued multiple challenges, they could not convince family members of party affiliates to join the carnival.
