Thiruvananthapuram:Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha on Tuesday unleashed attacks against the CPI(M) for its alleged efforts to propagate violence in Kannur district and to blame others for it. State Yuva Morcha president K Surendran said that the CPI(M) was preparing to carry out bomb-making with the intention of using it on certain people.

Surendran said that the CPI(M) and the police were trying to conceal the incident in which a bomb went off in Patyam, Kannur on last Thursday, the day polling was held in Kerala, in which the son of Marxist MLA P Jayarajan was seriously hurt. Jayarajan’s son Ashish P Raj and his friend TP Aghosh of Pookode were in the hospital after the bomb went off accidentally while they were handling it.

The Yuva Morcha leader wanted the CPI(M) and the Government to reveal the purpose for which the bomb was being made. “The bomb was made to kill someone, obviously. Who was it? Why did the police refuse to register a case about this for four days?” he asked.

Surendran pointed out that the police, ruled by CPI(M)’s Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, had not carried out the most preliminary actions they were supposed to in the case of the explosion. “They did not make on-the-spot examinations. The bomb squad did not visit the spot. They did not bring forensic experts to examine the samples. The police had not taken the statement of the doctors who operated upon Jayarajan’s son. There is a deliberate effort on the part of the police to keep this hidden from the people,” he said.

He wanted the police to interrogate P Jayarajan on the issue. “If Jayarajan is the sulphuric acid of Kannur, his son is its potassium cyanide, Surendran said, He added that Kodiyeri Balakrishnan had proved to be a Home Minister who never cares for truth or commitment.

Jayarajan’s son Ashish was admitted to Baby memorial hospital following the blast with both hands in a shattered condition. On Monday, the doctors held two more operations on him to see if the hands could be restored to its original form and function. Jayarajan himself was carrying a surgically re-joined right hand, which was severed in an attack ten years ago.
