via HK published on October 23, 2009

Representatives of 61 Hindu organizations that hold different views on various issues related to Hindus in the state held a meeting at Thiruvananthapuram on 12 October 2009. Uthradam Thirunal Marthanda Varma would be patron of the parliament and he had said that the Nair and Ezhava communities should function like two arms of the Hindu community while fighting for common causes. The Hindu organization that attended the meeting held the view that their differences over reservation would not be a stumbling block for joining hands on issues of common interests, like atheist governing devaswom boards. Participants of the meeting felt that an alternative system should be evolved for governing temples in the State and the parliament would function as a consultative forum for priests and others on crucial issues concerning the community. The parliament when formed would have a panel of priests and sanyasins to discuss and decide on crucial issues.
