published on August 30, 2014
The RSS, VHP and Khetra Samrakshana Samiti have come out strongly against the appointment of a Muslim DySP, with a controversial background, as Special Cell Officer of Sabarimala. A large number of police officers have joined the protests in the appointment of DySP MA Naseer, who had a hand in protecting an accused junior police officer, Salim. Naseer is said to have been made the SCO during the ceremonial opening of the temple during the month of Chingam.

An additional allegation of having lathicharged a BJP worker without any provocation, two years back, has also been leveled against Naseer. The incident is said to have occurred during the BJP workers march towards the civil station. Naseer is said to have implemented third degree methods on local BJP leader VN Unnikrishnan.

The ASI had pledged stolen ornaments that were recovered from a crook. When the incident came to light, the ASI was shielded by Naseer, who was in suspension during the period. It has also been stated that the suspension that was placed on Naseer was withdrawn owing to high political connections.

According to reports, a robbery had taken place in the residence of Crime Branch DySP Sanal Kumar. The stolen ornaments were recovered by Naseer, who was CI of Pathanamthitta. Later, the accused testified that the ornaments were pledged in a private establishment with all assistance offered by Grade ASI of Pathanamthitta, Salim. However, Naseer came to the rescue of his subordinate and tried to cover up. But with other police officers coming up in protest, the CI was forced to take action against the ASI.

Meanwhile Naseer is said to have secured the post of DySP of Vigilance in Kollam District. Following this, he was transferred to Pathanamthitta as DySP of Narcotics Cell. It was at this juncture that his previous misdeeds surfaced and he was placed under suspension. Naseer, however did not accept the suspension order. In a week’s time, it was withdrawn.
