HC directs to elect chairman for Palakkad civic body
Kochi, Dec 06
The Kerala High Court has directed to hold election to elect a Chairman for the Palakkad Municipality.
A division bench of the court comprising of Justice K S Radhakrishnan and Justice Sankaran also directed the state government to convene the meeting of councillors with in 15 days for electing the Chairman. A BJP Councillor was elected earlier as Vice-Chairman.
A Councillor Mr Vijayakumar has filed an affidavit before the Court stating that he was willing to contest for the post of Chairman, which is reserved for the SC/ST.
In the recently concluded elections to the local body no party has got majority and since BJP is the single largest party the LDF and UDF were trying to get the council dissolved and fresh elections held. The High Court decision has now come as a reprisal to their efforts.
