Hang Afzal, demands Kerala BJP

via Pioneer News Service | Kochi published on October 21, 2006

The Kerala BJP on Friday reiterated its demand to hang Mohammad Afzal Guru, who has been sentenced to death in the Parliament attack case.

The party organised a protest rally here on Friday, the day set by the court for the hanging of Afzal Gurus, and accused the Centre of going soft on issues related to national security.

Inaugurating the rally, which began at the High Court Junction and ended at Ernakulam collectorate, State BJP president PS Sreedharan Pillai charged Congress president Sonia Gandhi and CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat with efforts to justify the heinous crimes committed against the country.

The Supreme Court upheld the lower court’s verdict and awarded him the capital punishment of Afzal guilty, now the verdict should be respected, he said.

“He must be hanged,” said Pillai. The vote-bank politics of the UPA Government was evident from its approach, he alleged. “Except for the BJP, all other political parties in the country have backed the demand for clemency to Afzal at one point of time or other,” he pointed out.

Those who advocated clemency for Afzal were certainly not aware of the people who saved the Parliament and sacrificed their lives without thinking anything about their families.
