Govt insulted Ramarajya concept of Gandhiji : P. Parameswarji

KOZHIKODE: The move to honour M F Hussain, the Ramasethu issue and the row over making the Bhagavad Gita the moral text of the nation are all part of a conspiracy aimed at disintegrating the nation, said P Parameswaran addressing a seminar organised by the Bharatiya Vichara Kendram, Kozhikode, on ‘Freedom of expression: limits and constraints’, on Thursday here.

Parameswaran, Kendram director, in his presidential address said that American and Chinese interests are trying to destroy the cultural nationalism. He welcomed the court stay on conferring the Raja Ravi Varma Award on M.F.Hussain. The freedom of expression granted by the Constitution should be read in the light of public interest.

Rubbishing the Centre’s stand that there is no historical evidence on Rama’s existence, he said the government had in effect insulted the ‘Ramarajya’ concept of Gandhiji by its stand. Also, Bhagavad Gita, with its secular outlook, alone deserves the status of the nation’s moral text.
