Murder of ‘Married Lover’: Life Term for Faisal

The judge of Thodupuzha Additional Sessions Court, Justice Mohammed Waseem has awarded a life sentence to Faisal of Shalimar Manzil, Mudiyoorkara, Kottayam. Faisal, the third accused in the murder of Siji(A Married woman), has a fine of Rs 2 lakh slapped on him, along with his life sentence.

The prime accused, Kottayam Aarpukkara Parappuram Mohammed Ali Saleem, who remains elusive has not yet been convicted. Along with this punishment, Faisal has to undergo another 7 years of rigorous imprisonment for stealing gold ornaments. The two terms will be jointly executed, in the same period. The judgment has also stated that the amount which Faisal has to pay as fine must be handed over to the son of the woman who was murdered.

Siji (24), who hails from Thattarathattakara, Thodupuzha was murdered on 30 July, 2004 in the early morning hours at 2.45 am. The gruesome deed was done by slitting open her neck. The second and fourth accused Nattasseri Kaniyaparambil Shameer (18) from Perumabyikkattu and Riyaz from Parappuram, Panambalam have been let free by the court, for absence of evidence.

Siji’s husband was working abroad. Her mother-in-law who was undergoing treatment in Kottayam Medical College Hospital, was under the care of Siji. There she happened to meet Faisal, a taxi driver whose taxi was stationed in the stand in front of the hospital. The two of them got into a relationship soon after. Trouble started brewing up when Siji’s husband’s relatives spotted Faisal’s photo in her bag and raised their doubts about the same. With matters being exposed this way, Siji began insisting that Faisal marry her. Faisal was thus caught unawares and therefore, he started scheming all ways of avoiding her. The final plot was murder, which was executed with the aid of his friends Saleem, Shameer, and Riyaz.

Siji agreed to meet Faisal, along with her gold and cash at midnight, on the ill fated day. The group took her to the waterfalls near Valara, near the Kochi-Madhurai National Highway, in the wee morning hours. They strangulated her with a towel causing her to lose consciousness. They robbed her of her gold and money and later slit open her neck and shoved the dead body into the deep ravines of the area. It was Salim who committed the murder, following the instructions issued by Faisal. Hence, Salim became the first accused. But he remains elusive following his bail.

The investigation of the case was being handled by CI of Adimali, MA George. Additional Public Prosecutor PS Biju was present for prosecution of those accused in the case.
